They came for the house, not for me… So I decided to teach them a lesson they’ll never forget!

At 78, Madeleine thought she’d seen it all. The joys, the sacrifices, the silences too. But what she hadn’t anticipated was becoming almost invisible to those she loved most. On her birthday, she realized something: her children no longer came for her… but for the house. So, instead of crying in silence, she decided to take action. And her strategy was as elegant as it was foolproof.

A heartbreaking birthday

Madeleine  had prepared dinner the old-fashioned way: golden roast chicken, homemade lemon cake, and a pretty tablecloth brought out for the occasion. She hoped to rekindle some of that old-fashioned family warmth.

But reality was cruel.

Her son  Julien  complained about the heat and the “too traditional meal.” Her daughter-in-law  Camille  was glued to her phone. As for her granddaughter  Chloé , she talked only about the value of the house, suggesting that it might be necessary to “renovate before it’s too late.”
