Refusing to let go.
The room froze as Andrew reached out, trembling as he called her name, his voice breaking in the face of the reality of her lack of response, while the movement continued, immutable and undeniable.
Within minutes, emergency calls were made, and the calm that reigned in the building gave way to confusion, with questions multiplying as medical personnel and local authorities arrived to see what no one could explain.
What science could not reject.
The examination took place in heavy silence, an unbearable tension, until a doctor finally looked up, disbelief clearly visible on his face.
“Your wife is not responding,” he said cautiously, “but there is activity consistent with a fetal heartbeat.”
Andrew felt the ground tremble beneath him as hope and sorrow collided in a way he never thought possible.
