The betrayal
Richard had convinced Clara that she could stay temporarily in the cellar while “work” was being done upstairs.
Then he started forbidding her from going out.
He was monitoring his calls.
He promised her that she could leave soon.
But the days had turned into weeks.
He took advantage of the confusion surrounding my grandmother’s fragile health to act in secret.
When Adam heard the phrase — “She can’t get out of here” — Richard was talking to Clara.
The family shock
My mother broke down in tears.
My cousins were shouting that they hadn’t seen anything.
My grandmother used to say:
“That’s my son… my little boy…”
I looked at her, broken.
How could a house filled with love hide something so dark?
