I walked to the door and looked outside.
A tall young man was standing under my porch.
A dark coat. Snow in her hair.
A large envelope under his arm.
I opened it.
“I think you’ve already done that.”
He smiled.
“Hello,” he said.
“Can I help you?” I asked.
He swallowed.
“You’ve already done it,” he said.
I froze.
“Twenty years ago,” he added.
