Twenty years ago, I saved a boy during a storm — Yesterday, he returned with an envelope that gave me chills.

I looked at the deed of ownership again.

“And the cabin?” I asked.

“This isn’t to buy you,” he said. “It’s to give you something back.”

“We’re doing it right.”

I laughed. “My knees are wrecked.”

“I know,” he said. “That’s why these are easy trails. A place where you can sit and still feel the mountains.”

I sat up.

“If we do that,” I said, “we’ll do it right.”

Andrew’s eyes looked up.

“We need a lawyer,” I said.
