Twenty years ago, I saved a boy during a storm — Yesterday, he returned with an envelope that gave me chills.

 

A little boy. Maybe nine years old.

Huddled under a pine tree.

He was trembling.

Her teeth were chattering.

I squatted down slowly.

“That’s good. I’m here,” I said.

I took off my raincoat and wrapped it around him.

I leaned over very close.

“Don’t be afraid,” I said. “I will protect you.”
