Her eyes began to shine.

He slid the envelope across the table.

He nodded once.

“You’re not going to like it,” he warned.

“I’m already angry,” I said.

He gave me a strained smile.

“I’m here because I need you.”

I took the envelope.

He placed his hand on it.

“Wait,” he said.

He caught my eye.
