Twenty years ago, I saved a boy during a storm — Yesterday, he returned with an envelope that gave me chills.

 

He swallowed. “Land. Near the base of the mountain.”

He didn’t argue.

I pushed the papers away.

“No,” I said. “I can’t.”

” Clear… “

“No,” I repeated. “You can’t do that.”

He didn’t argue.

“You spent a fortune.”

He simply said, “Read on.”

I read it. P

My head was spinning.

“You spent a fortune,” I replied.

“I did well,” he replied.

“This is not just a gift.”

I let out a laugh.

He didn’t smile.

“This is not just a simple gift,” he said.
